Guru Systems has appointed Nic Mason as its new Chief Operating Officer.

Mason joins the London-based firm having previously held the same position at energy management start-up, EnergyDeck.

Before that, Mason was Senior Energy and Sustainability Consultant at CBRE where clients included Sainsbury’s Supermarkets, Nomura International, Westminster City Council and London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham.

He has also worked as the Energy, Carbon, and Sustainable Procurement Manager at Westminster City Council.

More recently Mason co-founded imby (In My Back Yard), a gardening app that helps people bring nature back into their urban spaces to enhance their city’s health and resilience.

Mason said: “Throughout my career I have become increasingly focused on the urban spaces where we live, and the ways we can contribute to their resilience and sustainability. By using data effectively we can develop more efficient services, reduce costs and dramatically improve people’s lives.

“Guru takes this use of data to new levels, and is transforming an entire industry with its innovative approach to heat networks.”

Guru Systems provides smart solutions for heat networks, and uses real-time data to improve network performance. The company’s technology helps to eliminate two of the biggest risks faced by heat network operators: customer debt and hidden inefficiency.

Its systems are installed on more than 92 decentralised energy networks across the UK.

Casey Cole, Managing Director of Guru Systems, said: “We’re delighted that Nicholas has joined the team. We have experienced rapid growth in recent years as the impact of our technology becomes clear to heat network operators.

“It is clear that Nicholas has bought into the company’s ethos and vision and he will play a key role in helping us improve the performance of more heat networks all across the UK.”
