Next generation smart meters produced by Guru Systems are set to be installed in hundreds of homes being built at VINCI St. Modwen’s St. Andrew’s Park development in London.
The landmark scheme, at the site of the former RAF Uxbridge base, will create a brand-new community in the London borough of Hillingdon, with more than 1300 new homes, a primary school, hotel, care home, theatre, shops and offices.
As part of the scheme, Metropolitan Infrastructure will design, build and operate a new heat network to provide low-carbon heat to all the buildings at the site. The project will now see Guru Systems’ Hub II smart meters installed on homes connected to the heat network.
The Hub II, which was unveiled by Guru Systems this year, has been designed to improve residents’ experience of living on heat networks. It is the most advanced smart payment and utility monitoring system available, providing real-time data to residents and heat providers on energy usage via a wireless mesh network.
The technology is always on and eliminates the need for manual meter reads, ensuring residents are only charged for the heat they use.
Guru Systems has designed the Hub II in conjunction with residents living on heat networks to ensure it is the most accessible, user-friendly system ever built, with a full colour display showing credit balance, instantaneous demand and consumption, tariff and standing charge data, CO2 emissions and a custom messaging service.
The system can manage and monitor up to five utility accounts and control three external control devices, such as shut off valves.
The Hub II also provide data to Guru Systems’ award-winning Guru Pinpoint platform, which monitors the overall performance of a heat network and spots inefficiencies and faults on a network before they cause costly inefficiencies that can lead to rising bills.
Casey Cole, Managing Director at Guru Systems, said: “Heat networks will play an important role in the UK’s transition to a low-cost, low-carbon energy system.
“It is vital that residents living on the networks can enjoy a first-class customer experience. Hub II has been designed to do just that, giving residents a simple way to control their energy use.
“We are delighted to be working with Metropolitan Infrastructure on this project and look forward to seeing Hub II being used by hundreds of families living at St. Andrew’s Park.”
Guru Systems smart meters are currently installed on more than 100 heat networks across the UK.
